Leopard tracking at Okonjima
Despite being notoriously shy, leopard sightings are common on Okonjima's 20,000 hectare reserve. These magnificent big cats roam freely on the reserve, and you can radio track them from the comfort of a game-viewing vehicle.
The leopards roam freely and are 'radio-tracked' across the huge nature reserve. They are solitary cats who hunt alone and cover lots of ground. Their unique patterned fur gives them good camouflage making them hard to spot, as a result sightings of these beautiful animals cannot be guaranteed. Aside from tracking these beautiful cats, this experience will also allow guests the opportunity to search for the rare and endangered species rarely seen - these animals might include rhino, brown hyena and pangolin.
This experience will offer guests the opportunity to be part of a 28 year study, with an aim to provide insights into a sustainable future for the leopard population as well as collecting and collating data, and assisting with actual research being conducted by AfriCat.
