Kyoto Home Visit - Tea Ceremony
One of the most captivating of Japanese customs, the tea ceremony has a rich history and importance in both past and present Japan. This experience allows you to practise the ceremony yourself in the home of a Kyoto tea-master.
You will be met at your hotel by your local guide who will also help you interpret the ceremony and head by taxi to a local townhouse, where your teacher will be awaiting your arrival. You will be introduced and then be taught the history of the ceremony as the teacher prepares to begin.
Immersed in etiquette, tradition and ritual, the ceremony has been an important part of Japanese society for centuries. With the quiet reflection interrupted by careful breaks in the silence as the tea master brews the thick green tea, it is easy to fall under its spell.
After the ceremony, you may be able try your hand at making some tea yourself, after which your guide arrange a taxi and accompany you back to your hotel.
