Kuang Si Waterfalls
Venture out of Luang Prabang to visit the picturesque Kuang Si Waterfalls. Trek to the top, swim in the pools, or simply sit back and soak up the beautiful surroundings. You can also visit the Free the Bears Sanctuary and Kuang Si Butterfly Park.
Take some time away from the historic side of Luang Prabang to enjoy one of the area’s most stunning natural features. The Kuang Si Waterfalls cascade down the hillside, creating a number of inviting pools with clear blue water. Should you wish, it is possible to trek up to the top of the falls and take in the views. It is also possible to go for a dip in one of the pools, although it is worth being aware that in winter it may be a bit chilly! To respect the local culture, we also recommend wearing a sarong or a t-shirt and shorts for swimming.
On your way back to Luang Prabang, you will have the choice to stop off at the Free the Bears Sanctuary, which is currently home to 23 Asiatic bears which have been rescued from poaching. You can also visit the Kuang Si Butterfly Park, a pretty garden with hundreds of butterflies. Please note that the Butterfly Park closes every spring during a period of about 3-4 weeks around May and June, but this does change year to year.
