Amber Fort is a 4 kilometre square fort built on a hilltop in Amer. Amber was the ancient capital of the former Jaipur state. The Fort’s construction began in the 16th century and was built upon by the rulers of the city that followed, but keeping its artistic Hindu style elements, such as its large ramparts, gates and cobbled pathways. There are many places inside the fort that are worth visiting, including the Palace of Mirrors, which is inlaid with millions of tiny glistening mirrors. The Hall of Public Audience is also fascinating, with its forty pillars it is a shining example of exquisite craftsmanship. The structure was built in red sandstone and plastered with white shell plaster to make it look like white marble. There is also a large and beautifully manicured garden to explore within the fort. You can also visit the milk market where large quantities of milk is procured from individual sellers and then resold to wholesale buyers. Enjoy the interesting ways by which the buyers judge the purity of milk and negotiate the prices.
Whilst exploring Amber Fort you may notice some visitors partaking in elephant rides. Please note, we do not encourage or support this due to the well-being of the elephants.
