Afternoon in Ancient Ayutthaya by Tuk Tuk
Discover the real Ayutthaya, the former Thai capital, with your private guide by local tuk tuk. Explore the local ruins, ancient temples, the summer palace as well as a local Muslim community on this afternoon adventure.
Ayutthaya became the second Siamese capital after Sukhotai and at the height of its power, it ruled Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Burma. It was a centre for commerce and merchants would travel from all over the globe. Today it's more of a magical ruin, with crumbling temples, ruins and statues. Soon after you arrive into Ayutthaya you will embark on your tour by hopping into a Kermit Tuk Tuk (this is a special type of motorized Tuk Tuk available only in Ayutthaya and the city of Trang in the South) with your guide.
You'll head off to explore Ayutthaya's magnificent ruins and ancient temples in the historical park. We've also included a brief stop at a local Muslim community to sample one of the most famous local delights - Ayutthaya candy floss Roti, before visiting some of the local houses to see how traditional handicrafts, such as palm leaf fish mobiles and Khon masks are produced.
Your afternoon tour ends in Bang Pa In to enjoy the summer palace built by King Rama IV. Note the surrounding palace buildings and temples have been inspired by European, Chinese and Thai designs. If you have time you might also like to visit Wat Nived, the gothic inspired temple on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.
