A Morning with the Birds
One of the most bio-diverse countries in the world, Colombia’s birdlife is exceptional, and a trip to the National Aviary is a chance to see around 135 species and learn about the conservation plans that contribute to this wealth of wildlife.
Situated around 50 miles from Cartagena on the road to Baru, the National Aviary of Colombia spreads over seven hectares with six ecosystems rich in birdlife. From parrots to toucans, flamingos to Andean condor, this is home to around 135 of Colombia’s bird species, with almost 2,000 birds resident in the aviary.
Time here is also a chance to discover how the extraordinary populations are conserved, protected and repopulated, and hear more about the sustainable and responsible management policies that contribute to this growing tally of birdlife.
This trip will take around four hours, and there is also an option to carry onto Isla Baru for a beachside lunch.
