Visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World
The original list of the Seven Wonders of the World (now known as the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World) is thought to date back as far as the fifth century BC, but only one of these (the Great Pyramid of Giza) currently remains intact. Since then however there has been a new list created – the New Seven Wonders of the World. Here are a few of our favourites...
Great Wall of China
Stretching for over 6,000 km and cited by astronauts as being one of only two man-made features visible from the moon, the Great Wall of China is the country’s most iconic sight and an absolute must-see. It is the world’s longest wall and the biggest form of ancient architecture on the planet. This awe-inspiring feat of defensive engineering is a real sight to behold – the winding path traverses rugged countryside and mountain ranges and must have been incredibly challenging to construct. As you walk this iconic structure, taking in the mountainous landscapes and truly outstanding scenery that surround it, you will recognise that this unique wonder really cannot be compared to anything else on Earth.

India’s Taj Mahal is a globally recognisable symbol of eternal love. The sheer size and unapologetic symmetry of this moving tomb is immaculate in its execution. Built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, this enchanting mausoleum will leave you speechless. Never has a symmetrical building shown so many faces as the Taj Mahal. Bathed in reds, oranges, pinks and even blues as dusk and sunset make their mark, this utterly iconic symbol of India demands attention again and again. Probably the most photographed sight in the whole country, the Taj Mahal looks fantastic at any time of day and from any angle; it simply cannot disappoint.

Machu Picchu – the legendary ‘Lost City of the Incas’ – is for many the sole reason for a visit to Peru, and it’s not hard to see why. Located almost 2,500 m above sea level, Machu Picchu is one of the most important archaeological centres in Latin America, and the most visited site in Peru. Translating simply as ‘Old Peak’ in the Quechua language (a name which really doesn’t do it justice), Machu Picchu is a truly magical and beautifully serene place. Watching the morning cloud roll around and eventually lift to reveal this sacred Inca citadel is an experience that is hard to describe. Whether you choose to reach it by trekking the Inca Trail, taking an overnight trip from Cuzco or combining a gentler trek with the luxury mountain lodges of the area, we believe a visit to Machu Picchu is something everyone should experience in their lifetime.
Our Luxury Inca Trail Adventure is by far the most luxurious way of seeing Machu Picchu, and is one of our favourite ways to take in this spectacular region. Speak to our specialists on 020 3141 2800 for more information on this or other trips to Machu Picchu.
