Feel humbled as you watch the sun rise over the majestic Angkor Wat, barter with locals as you shop on the famous floating markets, and ease into a slower pace of life in one of the coastal fishing villages. Cambodia has everything you need for the honeymoon of a lifetime.
Cambodia has a wealth of sights and sounds, and if you dig a little deeper you will find a country like no other, where the smiles and the warmth of the people are as much a part of the experience as visiting the country itself. Perhaps the most famous highlight is the spectacular 1,000 year old Khmer temple ruins, and be sure to enjoy the quaint and quiet capital of Phnom Penh. The up and coming beach resort of Sihanoukville is only a few hours drive from the capital meaning Cambodia can easily make an enjoyable two week holiday.
Cambodia has a fascinating past, which makes it an excellent cultural and educational destination for families. Spend time uncovering its rich history in the museums of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, or marvelling at the impressive Angkor Wat. Finish off with a few days on one of Cambodia's laid back beaches, should you wish to combine both culture and relaxation on your family holiday.
Cambodia and Vietnam complement each other beautifully: Cambodia has a more laid back charm while Vietnam is the beating heart of Indochina, with fast paced ancient cities. Even in 10 days, you can combine Cambodia and Vietnam with ease, but we’d recommend a little longer to do these wonderful countries justice. You can even cruise between the two along the historic Mekong River.

Song Saa translates as ‘The Sweethearts’ in Cambodian and refers to the two tiny islands in the Gulf of Thailand where this luxury resort can be found. Located within the little-visited Koh Rong Archipelago, Song Saa can be found on the two tropical islands of Koh Ouen and Koh Bong, which are connected by a footbridge and the resort is Cambodia’s first deluxe island development with overwater villas. Romantic, stylish and with a lovely laidback vibe, Song Saa is as committed to barefoot luxury as it is to conservation and environmental responsibility. This is a beautiful spot to watch exotic fish swim beneath your feet, slide from your deck into the warm turquoise water, explore the ancient rainforest or simply lie back and soak up the sun and the incredible views. Song Saa sits within a protected marine reserve, making it ideal for those who enjoy diving and snorkelling and we think this is the perfect place to grab some barefoot luxury after exploring Cambodia’s cultural wonders.
The 27 villas divide into Jungle Villas, which nestle in the hillsides offering great ocean views; Overwater Villas which are on the sunset side of the island and offer direct sea access and Ocean View Villas which have a private beach area and sunrise views. The villas have thatched-roofs and cool stone walls, private decks with plunge pools and guests can choose from one or two-bedrooms. The décor is pared back luxury to reflect the beauty of the natural surroundings, with four-poster beds draped in muslin, indoor and outdoor showers, sunken bathtub, Wi-Fi, satellite TV, air-conditioning and iPod docks. The overwater Vista restaurant and cocktail lounge serves sophisticated Khmer classics with a contemporary spin and with 360-degree sea views this is the perfect spot for watching the sun rise and set or gazing at the starry nights. For more casual dining the beachside Driftwood Bar is great for tapas and pizza.
Guests can enjoy an infinity pool where morning yoga sessions are held each day. There is also a tranquil spa and fitness centre. Both motorised and non-motorised watersports are available and Song Saa can arrange a traditional longtail boat trip and beach picnic on the neighbouring island of Koh Rong. The marine life here is prolific so both diving and snorkelling are popular pastimes. We’d recommend Song Saa to modern day lotus eaters looking for a slice of tropical paradise within a fascinating country.
When to go
In general, the best time to go to Cambodia is from November through to April, as this is when there is the least rain, although it can start to get very hot from March onwards. The wet season is from May to October. The beginning of the wet season in May and June, and the end in October tend to just see short, heavy showers, whereas rain is more frequent from July to September, particularly in the south of the country. November is a particularly good month to travel, as the country is still lush and green from the rainy season.
