Makanyane Safari Lodge was designed by a team of award winning architects to effortlessly blend with the surrounding bush. The species that populate Madikwe include lion, leopard, black rhino and white rhino as well as large herds of elephant and buffalo. The rare African wild dog (in the Tswana language, "Makanyane"), cheetah, spotted and brown hyena, giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species roam the reserve.
When to go
Madikwe generally has two seasons, the rainy season which runs from October to April and the dry season running from May to September. Generally, game viewing is best during the rainy season where there is less vegetation, making the game easier to spot. However, these winter months can be dry and cold, with temperatures dropping to 2°C (35°F) at night and averaging at around 23°C (73°F) during the day. The summer months are much warmer and more humid with temperatures averaging at 30°C (86°F) and most of the rain falling between November and February.
