Madikwe Safari Lodge is a wonderful lodge from which to explore the vast plains of the Madikwe Game Reserve. The lodge is split in to three camps which makes for a more exclusive and intimate feel to the accommodation. Discover Madikwe's wildlife in an open-top 4x4 or on foot with the lodge's enthusiastic safari guides.
Madikwe Safari Lodge offers guests a choice of three exclusive camps in West, North and East Camp totalling twenty luxury suites. Each suite features a comfortable sitting area with fireplace in the bedroom and a spacious dressing area. The en-suite bathroom offers a large bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers and French doors opening onto a wooden deck with a private plunge pool. All the accommodation is nestled on a gentle slope of the rolling hills above the flat plains of Madikwe, the conical roofs and chimneys of the Lodge blend imperceptibly into the surrounding game-filled bushveld, intersected by the Marico River and framed by the Dwarsberg Hills.
The guiding here is some of the best around. In an open vehicle, your experienced guide will show you as much wildlife as possible. Evening game drives include a stop off for the obligatory sundowners; equally, morning game drives will have an all-important coffee or chocolate and Amarula (the African equivalent to 'Baileys') break! Meals served at the lodge are delicious and plentiful - big breakfasts on arrival back from an early morning game drive, lovely lunches, and atmospheric evening meals sometimes under the African night sky.
When to go
Madikwe generally has two seasons, the rainy season which runs from October to April and the dry season running from May to September. Generally, game viewing is best during the rainy season where there is less vegetation, making the game easier to spot. However, these winter months can be dry and cold, with temperatures dropping to 2°C (35°F) at night and averaging at around 23°C (73°F) during the day. The summer months are much warmer and more humid with temperatures averaging at 30°C (86°F) and most of the rain falling between November and February.
