Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is located in the malaria-free Eastern Cape near Port Elizabeth, an ideal location to either commence or conclude your journey along the renowned Garden Route. A conservation victory, Kwandwe is home to thousands of animals, including lion, black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant and cheetah, as well as Africa’s famous 'Big Five'.
Kwandwe Great Fish River Lodge is set along the banks of the Great Fish River and offers spectacular views of the wild landscape. The beautiful thatched guest areas are stylishly furnished in earth-toned fabrics, integrating colonial settler history with local African culture. The lounge, library and dining room lead out onto an expansive viewing deck with breathtaking views overlooking the river. The nine spacious thatched, stone and glass suites feature floor-to-ceiling doors which fold back to reveal uninterrupted views of the wilderness. When to go
The Eastern Cape remains a great destination for the family to visit all year, combining Mediterranean and sub-tropical weather, temperatures remain pleasant and rarely reach extremes. The dry season runs from September until March with temperatures falling slightly until August, with midday temperatures reaching around 22°C (72°F).
