A member of the exclusive Relais & Château luxury hotel group, the Heritage Suites Hotel offers elegant and deluxe accommodation opposite Wat Polanka, around 1-kilometre north of Old Market, one of Siem Reap’s major tourist hubs. The stylish colonial-era façade and vintage Mercedes that ferry guests to and from the airport, immediately puts one in mind of the opulent lifestyles of a former era and a stay at the Heritage is an experience to savour. A 15-minute drive from the airport and just 10-minutes from Angkor Wat, the Heritage is well-placed to discover the charms of Siem Reap and the temple complex it is famous for. What’s more, its location away from the main centre of town, infuses the hotel with a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, creating the feel of a luxurious private sanctuary.
The 20 Suites and 6 Deluxe rooms are spacious and elegantly furnished fusing traditional Asian style with a more contemporary aesthetic. The Deluxe rooms all have high ceilings, bamboo flooring, teak furnishings, king-sized bed, premium linens, calming incense, flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi and iPod docks. The Suites include open plan living spaces, over-sized stone bathtubs, steam rooms, along with private tropical gardens with outdoor showers. Larger Suites also include a garden Jacuzzi. The main Heritage Restaurant, Cocktail Bar and Lounge are housed in a two-storey colonial building, with tall windows suffusing the interiors with light and the space doubles up as an art gallery with an ever-changing display of art and photographic work. The Heritage is located upstairs and is one of Siem Reap’s best restaurants, with a fine wine list and a varied a la carte menu showcasing Western, Asian and Khmer cuisine. Downstairs is the Cocktail Bar and Lounge, where you can relax over a cocktail or nightcap. The Pool Bar serves drinks and light snacks and guests also have the option to eat al fresco around the lantern-lit pool for more of a romantic experience.
The saltwater pool is temperature-controlled, so when the weather heats up, the water temperature cools down. Surrounded by sun loungers and lush greenery, this is a lovely place to chill out both day and night, when the pool is transformed by lanterns and fairy-lights into a magical oasis, where guests can enjoy live music and classical Aspara dance performances. The hotel has a number of bicycles that can be borrowed to explore the area and after a hard day’s sightseeing, the Bodia Spa is the place to go for a reviving treatment or massage. The hotel also has an in-house adventure specialist able to arrange off-the-beaten-track experiences, bespoke trips to Angkor Wat, hot-air ballooning and many other activities that may appeal. The Heritage Suites Hotel is a high-end offering which we think will appeal to couples and honeymooners looking for a luxurious and indulgent stay in Siem Reap.
When to go
In general, the best time to go to Cambodia is from November through to April, as this is when there is the least rain, although it can start to get very hot from March onwards. The wet season is from May to October. The beginning of the wet season in May and June, and the end in October tend to just see short, heavy showers, whereas rain is more frequent from July to September, particularly in the south of the country. November is a particularly good month to travel, as the country is still lush and green from the rainy season.
