In a unique location on the rugged island of Espirtu Santo, part of a National Marine Park and a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site, Camp Cecil is a chance to sleep under canvas without compromising on comforts. On the shoreline of the Sea of Cortez, the eight-luxury safari-style tents give guests the chance to experience one of nature’s greatest areas of marine life, which includes whales, dolphins, sea lions, sea turtles and manta rays. The camp runs fully-guided activities tailored to your interests and so whether you want to snorkel, swim, kayak or hike, it can easily be arranged. On Espiritu Island you are surrounded by towering cliffs, amazing rock formations, hidden soft sand bays and acres of cacti, making it a wonderful natural environment to explore. Just a short boat ride from La Paz, we think Camp Cecil makes for a unique and unforgettable experience for wildlife lovers and adventure enthusiasts.
The eight white canvas tents are beautifully decorated, with full-size beds, plush linens and candle-lit lanterns. Each tent has a small outside area with two beach chairs for chilling out and enjoying the view and with no internet connection, the camp really gives guests a chance to relax and go off-grid for a few days. Campers share two compost toilets housed in separate cabanas and there are two sun showers, also housed in separate cabanas. Rates include three freshly-prepared and delicious meals a day and there is a daily happy hour in the beach lounge area.
With a naturalist guide at your disposal, each day is tailored to your requirements. You might want to take out a boat and swim with sea lion pups, go on the hunt for sea turtles, take a nature hike on the island, try your hand at paddle-boarding, kayak around the islets or snorkel amongst the tropical fish. We think Camp Cecil is a fantastic addition to any Baja itinerary giving you a chance to explore the marine life of the area, while living by the rhythms of the sea, the sun and the stars.
When to go
Without a doubt the best season to visit Baja is during the whale migration between December and March. The weather in Baja is at its warmest between these months too, but also bring high hotel prices.
