Just a short stroll along rainforest pathways to the sensational Iguazu Falls, the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas is the only hotel within the Brazilian National Park. You can enjoy superb views of the falls from some of the rooms and exclusive access to the falls in the evening and at dawn, when the park is closed to other visitors, and when the light is best for photography.
The Hotel das Cataratas has two restaurants, the poolside Ipe Grill serving barbecued meats and the Itaipu Restaurant with its outside verandahs, where you can enjoy traditional Brazilian delicacies and international cuisine. The Taroba Bar is ideal for an early evening drink, and live music is sometimes played. In the gardens is a huge swimming pool and smaller children’s pool, and a kids club, archery, tennis and volleyball are all available.
Stroll along the walkways and marvel at the power and splendour of these vast waterfalls twice the size of Niagara, or see it all from the sky on one of their helicopter tours. This natural paradise also offers thrills and excitement in abundance from white water rafting and kayaking on the Iguazu River to jungle treks with one of the hotel's in-house biologists to observe the amazing wildlife including colourful toucans and giant butterflies.
When to go
The high season is in January and February, when most Brazilians and Argentineans are on holiday, if you want to avoid crowded periods, avoid these months and Easter time. May and July are rainy months and the volume of the waters is at its maximum.
