The Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp is an exclusive resort with spectacular views of the verdant hills of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. In the heart of the mysterious Golden Triangle, this hilltop resort perched on a ridge is a fantastic place to unwind but also to get up close to retired elephants. Designed with a local village in mind, this charming resort will teach you all about retired domestic elephants in Thailand. We don't encourage riding elephants, so instead go for walk through the jungle with these gentle creatures or simply relax around the pool.
The 61 rooms and suites are beautifully styled; think teakwood floors, terrazzo tubs and Thai silks draped over large comfortable beds with crisp linens. Some of the rooms have beautiful views of the Mekong River or the landscape gardens designed by Bill Bensley.
Like with all Anantara hotels, the The Anantara Spa here is exceptionally good. Set within wooden suites in the jungle, this is the ultimate location for a tranquil spa treat or yoga class.
Choose from a range of restaurants at the hotel; the chefs at Anantara specialise in rich curries, delicious wines and romantic dinners. Dining by Design will allow you to dine in any location you desire, such as in the forest, rice paddies, and other scenic landscapes - ideal for special occasions and a great idea for honeymooners. Foodies will love Anantara’s cooking school, Spice Spoons, that will take you to a market to pick up local ingredients before cooking up authentic Thai dishes. We think this is an excellent choice for those wanting to get to a remote corner of Thailand. It also combines brilliantly with a cruise along The Mekong into Laos and Luang Prabang.
When to go
Characterised by a warm tropical climate, Thailand can be visited all year round, however there are some distinct seasons that could affect when you choose to travel. In the north of the country, the most popular time to visit is during the cool season from December to February, with pleasant daytime temperatures, chilly evenings and minimal rainfall. The rainy season arrives at the end of May, bringing heavy rains until November. Rainfall tends to appear in short, sudden downpours, with August and September seeing the most consistent rain.
