The lavish resort of Amanpuri takes inspiration from traditional Thai architecture; its stylish design and sumptuous luxury rivalled only by its pristine beachside setting.
Set amongst the waving palms of the coconut plantation, the 40 Pavilions are connected by elevated wooden walkways allowing guests to make their way through the tropical landscape to the resort’s exceptional facilities, including a spa and numerous dining options. The sympathetic design of the grounds is echoed in the rooms, where traditional Ayutthayan architecture pays homage to the area’s rich history while complementing Aman’s particular brand of elegant minimalism. The contemporary, sleek lines of the rooms and oversized bathrooms highlight the beauty of the surroundings and each has a private terrace from which to look out over the glorious beach or gardens, while some boast private pools.
For keen divers and watersports enthusiasts, a fleet of cruisers and speedboats are on hand to explore Phang Nga Bay and the Similian Islands, while the island boasts 30 Buddhist temples for those looking to experience Thailand’s rich culture.
Back at the resort, you’ll be spoiled for choice with a range of restaurants offering cuisines from fresh seafood to authentic Thai dishes, or Mexican street food. For a pampering treat, lose yourself in the sanctuary of the spa and take a Pilates class or a guided meditation session on one of the open sided salas set into the hillside.
As part of a busy itinerary, Amanpuri is an ideal place for both couples and families to relax for a few days.
When to go
Characterised by a warm tropical climate, Thailand can be visited all year round, however there are some distinct seasons that could affect when you choose to travel. The most favourable time to visit Thailand’s west coast is between November and March, where sunny days and hot temperatures are coupled with a refreshing breeze. At the end of May, the monsoon rains begin to arrive, reaching their heaviest between the middle of September and the middle of October. Khao Sok National Park is best visited during this monsoon season, as temperatures are more pleasant and flora and fauna are abundant.
