137 Pillars is wonderful boutique option in Chiang Mai that has an enthralling colonial history, dating back to the late 1800s. Today the property is home to 30 super stylish suites, that combine Asian style with contemporary design. This is easily Chiang Mai's most stylish and upscale small boutique hotel and we think it's the perfect option for couples wanting to stay somewhere small and very special.
There are four types of suite to choose from, each individually designed. The suites all feature comforts you might expect from a upscale boutique hotel such as speaker systems, espresso machines and Wi-Fi, as well a large balconies or terraces with comfortable day beds and rocking chairs. Inside, enjoy super king-size beds, walk-in dressing rooms, wardrobes and enormous bathrooms. These boast both indoor and outdoor showers, and large Victorian baths, exuding true colonial grace.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in The Dining Room, where guests can enjoy their meals al fresco or in the restaurant, with both Lanna and Thai cuisines served. We enjoyed the classic pad Thai and Thai duck curry. The Palette restaurant offers gourmet food created using the freshest of farm ingredients. Enjoy refreshing cocktails, premium spirits and bar snacks at Jack Bain’s Bar, or afternoon tea in the tropical gardens. Guests can also enjoy traditional Thai cooking classes at the property, learning wonderful recipes to take back home.
We think 137 Pillars is an excellent choice for those looking for exclusivity and sophistication in the city. We feel it's ideal for couples wanting something peaceful.
When to go
Characterised by a warm tropical climate, Thailand can be visited all year round, however there are some distinct seasons that could affect when you choose to travel. In the north of the country, the most popular time to visit is during the cool season from December to February, with pleasant daytime temperatures, chilly evenings and minimal rainfall. The rainy season arrives at the end of May, bringing heavy rains until November. Rainfall tends to appear in short, sudden downpours, with August and September seeing the most consistent rain.
