How booking your holiday with Imagine Travel works
Pack for a Purpose
Got a little extra space in your suitcase? You could use it to make a difference to the lives of people around the world. Here at Imagine, we believe it’s hugely important to give something back to the wonderful destinations we visit, which is why we are supporting Pack for a Purpose.
What is Pack for a Purpose?
Pack for a Purpose was started in 2009 by Rebecca Rothney and allows travellers to help the local communities they visit by packing just five pounds (2.3 kilograms) of supplies in their luggage. Lists are provided directly by the local community-based projects that will receive them, so you know you are taking items they actually need.
The idea evolved from Rebecca’s trips to Africa with her husband, where they visited a local school and took a variety of supplies with them. Seeing the pupils playing with the first football the school had ever had inspired Rebecca to come up with an easy, yet meaningful way for travellers to contribute to the local communities they visited.
Since Pack for a Purpose’s inception, travellers have taken over 110 kilograms of supplies to schools, clinics and orphanages worldwide, meeting essential needs in over 60 countries including, Costa Rica, Indonesia and Botswana.
How you can get involved
Whether you’re heading off to Costa Rica on a family holiday or to Kenya on your honeymoon, by simply packing a few medical, school, or other requested provisions in your luggage, you can make a big impact. On our travel documents, we will alert you to properties that work with Pack for a Purpose with a link to supplies they need. Simply pack these in your case, leave them with the front desk of your accommodation and they will make sure they are delivered to the local project for you.
More often than not, we all tend to over pack when we go on holiday, so leave those extra shirts or that pair of shoes you won’t end up wearing, and instead pack some colouring pencils and books, plasters or soap to help those in need. Plus once you have donated your supplies, you will then have extra space for gifts and souvenirs to bring back home with you!
