Family Road Trips
From the classic route along the Pacific Highway between San Francisco and Los Angeles to a self-drive adventure through the Canadian Rockies or simply taking a leisurely cruise around the New England countryside, there is no better place to take on the open road than in North America!
Driving along Pacific Highway 1 is the best way to get to know the ins and outs of the USA’s greatest treasure – it’s coastline. The highway snakes along Big Sur, a stunning sweep of land where the Pacific Ocean meets the jagged peaks of the Santa Lucia range. Scattered along the way are hidden beaches, white-sand coves, redwood forests, galleries, state parks and so much more. Some of our favourite detours include the picturesque McWay Falls, a 24m-high waterfall cascading over granite cliffs, and the iconic Bixby Bridge.
Canada is perfect for a self-drive adventure, offering swathes of untouched wilderness, glaciated Rocky Mountains, vast sweeping valleys and cosmopolitan cities. Alberta in particular offers a stunning drive through Icefields Parkway, a 232km highway that winds through a spectacular landscape punctuated with ancient glaciers, soaring mountain peaks, icefields and valleys. Coyotes, deer, black bears and big-horn sheep are frequently spotted along the route so keep your eyes peeled!
New England’s quaint towns and charming countryside perfectly lends itself to self-drive discovery. Explore the romantic towns and peaceful countryside of Maine, take a tour of the White Mountains in Jackson, New Hampshire before heading to Vermont to enjoy a range of outdoor adventures.
