However you want to spend your summer, whether it be on the lookout for wildlife, witnessing a traditional festival or simply stretching out on the sand, then a holiday to Latin America can certainly satisfy your every need.
For wildlife, head to Roatan in Honduras, as July brings with it whale shark season. Snorkel or dive with these impressive creatures for memories that will last a lifetime! From July through until September, Turtle nesting season is in full swing in Costa Rica’s Tortuguero. Watch hundreds of these adorable creatures scramble onto the shore, a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The best places to head to the beach at this time of year include Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil. Colombia and Venezuela’s Caribbean coasts boast year round sunshine and generally dry conditions, along with colourful stretches of sand, infectious rhythms and a lot of smiling faces. The northeast coast of Brazil, in all its rugged glory, is also wonderful all year round. Despite June – Aug technically counting as winter months, they still offer hot and perfect beach weather; from August the wind picks up making it perfect for kite surfing.
The summer months also bring a number of festivals: the flower festival in Medellin, Colombia; the festival of Santiago on Guatemala; the kite festival in Villa de Leyva, Colombia; the Rain festival in Puerto Varas, Chile; and last but not least the unusual day of assumption in Joyabaj, Guatemala- all well-worth a visit should your travel dates coincide.
