Imagine Latin America’s top destinations for 2016
As 2015 draws to a close, we’ve put together a list of our top five destinations to visit in Latin America in 2016…
Colombia – an up and coming holiday destination enjoying a travel renaissance
Having managed to shake off its edgy reputation, Colombia is enjoying a travel renaissance as the newest rising star of South America. We are delighted to see this fantastic country rising to fame on the tourist scene, and in 2015 we sent a record number of people to Colombia. We are predicting an even bigger year for Colombia in 2016, as the nation’s economy continues to strengthen and infrastructure across the country carries on improving. As final negotiations take place for a peace pact, the country is safer and more stable than ever before and always brings in fantastic feedback from our clients. An up and coming holiday destination offering palm-fringed beaches, snow-capped mountains, fabulous colonial cities, Amazonian rainforest and seven UNESCO World Heritage sites, we’re tipping Colombia as the destination for 2016.
Brazil – experiencing all the benefits that go with being the Olympic host nation
2016 is set to be a huge year for Brazil; you must have been hiding under a stone if you haven’t heard the buzz surrounding this vibrant Latino country! Years in the making and following in the success of the 2014 World Cup, the Olympics will be opening in Rio in August, and we are certain they will do a fantastic job. Whether you want to soak up the buzz of the games themselves or just take advantage of the improved infrastructure that has spread across the country as a result of the Olympic preparations, 2016 is a great year to tick Brazil off your bucket list. Go and be dazzled by a country fuelled by samba beats, carnival fever and a legendary beach culture.
Costa Rica – a stunning country set to gain popularity with new direct flights from the UK
A beach-enclosed eco-wonderland located at the exact centre of the Americas, Costa Rica has long been a favourite with Imagine clients. However, a lack of direct flights has meant it hasn’t always been the easiest destination to get to. This is all changing! Back in the summer British Airways announced they would be launching direct flights from London Gatwick to San Jose from May 2016. With no more lengthy connections putting people off, we’re expecting Costa Rica’s popularity to go through the roof! Offering a unique showcase of dazzling jungles filled with pastel-coloured hummingbirds and playful monkeys, unspoilt primary rainforests, unsurpassed national parks, marimba beats and gourmet coffee, now is the time to get to Costa Rica!
Galapagos – the sooner you see the weird and wonderful endemic wildlife of these islands the better
Famous for their incredibly fearless and unique wildlife, the Galapagos Islands are some of the world’s most spectacular volcanic islands, found just off the coast of Ecuador. You can swim with sea lions, float eye-to-eye with a penguin, stand next to a blue-footed booby feeding its young, watch a giant tortoise lumbering through a cactus forest, and try to dodge the iguanas scurrying over the lava. As with all endemic wildlife, the threat of extinction is a real worry and conservationists are working very hard to preserve this unique eco-system. To experience the Galapagos Islands in their full glory, don’t delay; book a trip to this weird and wonderful destination in 2016.
Peru – a thrilling adventure playground set to reap the benefits of new direct flights from the UK
Epic landscapes, jaw-dropping archaeological sites, fabulous wildlife and ancient cultures define Peru: a land of contrasts. But despite being the third largest country in South America, Peru is another destination that has never been reachable direct from the UK. We’re delighted to be able to say that this won’t be the case for much longer! Along with their direct flights to Costa Rica, British Airways have also added a new route from London Gatwick to Lima starting in May 2016, making Peru more accessible than ever before. So make 2016 the year you visit this spectacular country. From the Amazon rainforest and Andean peaks to the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu and the puzzling Nazca Lines, Peru is one of the world's most thrilling adventure playgrounds, and with this new direct flight route, the country’s appeal is only set to grow.
