Summer Holidays

Summer conjures up images of sandy beaches with swaying palms and sparkling waters, to which Asia may just have the answer. Head to Indonesia for the ultimate island escape and enjoy stunning scenery, fascinating culture and perfect stretches of sand.

During our summer months, much of Asia is under a deluge of water, which doesn’t lend itself well to a beach holiday. However there are exceptions to the rule, so those in need of a fix of sun, sea and sand should look no further. Top of the list is Indonesia and its many islands, closely followed by Malaysia’s east coast which follows the opposite weather pattern to that of its western counterpart.

Tourist favourites including Bali, Java, Sumatra, Lombok and the Gili Islands enjoy calm waters, glorious sunshine and soaring temperatures between April and October; just perfect for a summer getaway. Explore captivating temples and markets, try your hand at yoga in the most serene surroundings or delve deep into jungles in search of rare and endangered wildlife.

If wildlife is calling you then Borneo is also perfect at this time of year. Head to the rainforests of Sarawak and find yourself amongst a maze of trees, caves and unusual flora, keeping an eye out for the region’s alarming range of animal species. If trekking appeals then a number of trails can be followed, and with August being the driest month in the region then there is no better time.

For those seeking pure luxury then Borneo offers a number of private island resorts, including Gaya Island and Lankayan Island, which offer indulgent accommodation with an exquisite attention to detail. Here there is many an opportunity for rest and relaxation; lounge by the pool or indulge at the spa. Alternatively some wonderful snorkelling can be enjoyed off the coast of Borneo, and should you be feeling adventurous the conditions lend themselves well to a variety of water sports too! What are you waiting for?
