A varied and cultural journey through Malaysia, exploring the modern metropolis of Kuala Lumpur, the historical city of Malacca, the regal tea plantations of the Cameron Highlands and finishing on the tropical paradise island of Pangkor Laut
Langkawi – the ‘Jewel of Kedah’ – is an archipelago of 104 stunning islands off the coast of Malaysia, resting in the sparkling blue waters of the Andaman Sea. A glorious mix of gorgeous sandy beaches and dense forests teeming with wildlife, Langakawi is undoubtedly the ultimate island getaway.
Langkawi Island, otherwise known as the ‘Legendary Island’, is the largest of all of Langkawi’s islands, with a population of just over 60,000. Its laid back atmosphere, dramatic waterfalls and delicious local cuisine are just a few reasons Langkawi is rated so highly amongst visitors.
One of the highlights of any trip to Langkawi is definitely the trip up to the Langkawi Sky Bridge – the last stop on the cable car journey. 125m long and 700m above sea level, the Sky Bridge offers perhaps the best views of the Island’s magnificent waterfalls, azure waters and immense forests – not for the faint hearted perhaps, but the photo opportunities are endless!
After the exhilarating heights of the Sky Bridge, travellers may want to unwind with one of the island’s many pristine white-sanded beaches. Those looking for a more relaxed vibe will love Pantai Cenang - Langkawi’s most popular beach destination. Its soft white sands, swaying coconut trees and crystalline turquoise waters make it the picture postcard of a paradise island. Tanjung Rhu on the other hand is a fantastic option for all nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Located right at the north of the island, Tanjung is a dazzling beach embellished with mangroves, waterways and caves. Take a guided tour to really explore Langkawi’s dense green forests and observe the fascinating wildlife – such as primates, eagles and crocodiles. Tanjung’s shores are some of the best in Langkawi – powdery soft sands meet crystal clear waters – a truly stunning location.
Another of Langkawi’s well-known attractions is Underwater World Langkawi, one of Malaysia’s largest aquariums. This mega-sized aquarium is home to over 500 different species of animal and sea creatures, including the largest fresh water fish in the world – the Amazonian arapaima. The most popular exhibit – the ‘penguin-arium’ – is home to black footed and rock hopper penguins, whilst other exhibits showcase the incredible island sharks, stingrays and turtles. A definite must-see for all the family!
