The French Concession area has quiet, colonial parks and neighbourhoods, while the Pudong financial district has the Oriental Pearl Tower and towering skyscrapers. Take a stroll along the Huangpu river, and admire the colonial architecture of the Bund, watch the locals flying kites and playing Mah Jong, and wonder at the contrasting architecture across the river in Pudong.
Shanghai’s old town known as ‘Garden of Happiness’ has traditional Suzhou style which is a complete contrast to the contemporary architecture across the Huangpu River. It shows the progression made by the modern city; it is a mix of styles and full of the world’s top brands, and where modern life meets the past.
Suzhou is situated on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is one of the oldest towns in the Yangtze Basin and has traditionally been a city of culture that has been a hub for craftsmen, artists and scholars. It is Famous for its stone bridges, canals, temples and particularly the classical gardens, which have earned a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List due to their beauty and traditional waterside architecture.
Tongli is characterised by its stone bridges. It is a well preserved ancient town constructed on islands separated by 15 different river lanes. A town full of culture and tradition, Tongli has numerous temples and gardens to explore.
