A vibrant and delightful city, Beijing boasts one of the great wonders of the world, enchanting architecture and immensely significant historical sites. Beijing is the modern capital of the most populous country in the world, and is the political, educational and cultural centre of China. Home to many dazzling and idyllic views, Beijing is the perfect place to satisfy all your travelling desires.
The capital Beijing lies just south of the rim of the Central Asian Steppes and is separated from the Gobi Desert by a green chain of mountains. A huge, sprawling city that’s home to 12 million people, Beijing is full of wonderful sights. Walking along the Great Wall, standing atop The Gate of Heavenly Peace from where Mao declared China as The People’s Republic, and looking out over the enormous Tiananmen Square are experiences you won’t forget. The Forbidden City is equally as memorable - if you find a quiet corner to soak up its atmosphere, your imagination can easily transport you back to the days of Imperial China, it is now unquestionably a once in a lifetime experience.
One of the greatest wonders of the world, the Great Wall of China is an absolute must-see. Stretching for over 6,000 km, the Great Wall is cited by astronauts as being one of only two man-made features visible from the moon.
Tiananmen Square is the biggest square in the world at 880 metres long and 500 metres wide and it has played host to many momentous and historically significant moments, such as the founding ceremony of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Today, you have the opportunity to observe the raising and lowering of the national flag at sunrise and sunset.
Its other wonderful sites include The Temple of Heaven, China’s largest building for religious worship and the Summer Palace, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and Chinas largest and most well preserved Royal Park in China.
