Calcutta (Kolkata)

A gateway to the Himalayas, Calcutta is where many journeys through India’s north-east begins. Renamed in 2001 as Kolkata, Calcutta is a vibrant and buzzing city, widely considered to be the cultural and intellectual capital of India. It is a city steeped in architectural remnants from its time as the capital of the British Raj, in particular the Victoria Memorial, Calcutta’s greatest landmark.

Calcutta is one of the most “under-rated” and “under-visited” cities in India, and left me marvelling at the hidden treasures and unique history the city has to offer.
