Asia for honeymooners
It is always difficult to decide where to go on honeymoon, it has to be the trip of a lifetime, but also suit the two of you perfectly. With that in mind we have put our heads together and come up with a few perfect options for people with various tastes...
For people looking to experience Asia’s history and culture, you can’t beat the enchanting Temples of Angkor Watt. This spectacular temple complex is definitely a highlight of any trip to Southeast Asia and it fits seamlessly with a number of itineraries and can be combined with several countries. These are our top three honeymoon hotels in the area:
Maison Polanka is a lovely boutique property full of character. The service here is so personal, and with its somewhat hidden away location it is perfect for those wanting a bit of privacy, but with easy access to the key sites. For honeymooners we would suggest staying in the Khmer House for a really special experience.
Shinta Mani Resort
Perfectly located only five minutes from the shopping and restaurant area of Siem Reap but on a wonderfully quiet street, Shinta Mani Resort is a lovely resort and ideal for exploring everything that Siem Reap has to offer. If you can stretch your budget a little bit and upgrade to the sister property, the Shinta Mani Club, it is definitely worth it.
La Residence D'Angkor
An absolute imagine favourite, La Residence is perfect if you want to really splash out on your honeymoon. Set in beautiful gardens with a lovely salt water swimming pool, you will have to be dragged away from this idyllic retreat to visit the temples.
Once you've ticked off the temples, no honeymoon is complete without some amazing beach time, and Asia delivers this on so many levels! From the idyllic honeymoon beaches of Bali and Thailand to world famous resorts, Asia literally has it all. Here are a few of our favourite beach resorts:
The Sarojin Resort
The Sarojin Resort is based on the idyllic island of Khao Lak in Southern Thailand and its main draw (apart from the stunning white sand) is it's proximity to the Similan Islands – commonly recognised as one of the ten most beautiful dive sites in the world. For a bit of extravagance you might want to upgrade to a Pool Residence.
“The Sarojin is great, not only for its white sand beaches and diving potential, but also because it is only one hour away from Khao Sok National Park, making it perfect for people who want to combine jungle and beach." – Pete Trangmar, Thailand specialist
Gaya Island Resort
Situated on a stunning island only a 15 minute speed boat ride away from mainland Malaysia, Gaya Island Resort launched only a few years ago but it quickly became an Imagine honeymoon favourite. For a special honeymoon treat you can have sunset drinks aboard their private yacht – the perfect end to a day on the beach.
Song Saa is a stunning five star resort made up of two islands, one for relaxing on and the other for exploring. Their stunning over-water villas are the stuff dreams are made of, and make it a truly unique place to stay. It also combines perfectly with seeing the temples of Angkor Watt.
"Put simply, Song Saa is the best place I have ever stayed." – Louise Huntington, Cambodia speciailist
Bali is world renowned for its beaches and Amankila Resort is the epitome of honeymoon luxury – a winning combination. The Aman Resorts are in a world of their own and Amankila is no exception. It is a simply exceptional resort; the three tier infinity pool will blow your mind and the level of service means we can basically guarantee you will never have been pampered as much in your life, but hey, it is your honeymoon after all.
Not everyone likes to sit on the beach all day or while away hours looking at temples. If you prefer to be on the go, cycling through villages, trekking in rolling hills or spotting wildlife in the jungle, here are some amazing places to stay for a more active honeymoon:
Borneo Rainforest Lodge
Borneo Rainforest Lodge is rightfully one of our favourite places in Asia and perfect for honeymooners. Set amidst primary rainforest in Danum Valley, this amazing nature retreat delivers on all levels. The guides are amazing, the wildlife is incredible and the chalets stunning.
"It is definitely worth upgrading to a Deluxe River View Room, for the perfect honeymoon stay I would suggest Chalet 17." - Holly Brightwell, Borneo specialist
4 Rivers Eco Lodge
Set in the Cambodian jungle, there's no denying 4 Rivers Eco Lodge is a unique honeymoon resort. Stay in African style luxury safari tents, but with the added twist of floating on the river. There are only 12 tents, each with their own private veranda with access to the cooling river below. You could while away hours just relaxing here, but if you want to keep busy, kayaking, trekking and swimming in waterfalls are also on offer!
"4 Rivers Eco Lodge surpassed all my expectations. The tents were lovely, I just wish I could have stayed here longer." - Louise Huntington, Cambodia specialist
Amara Mountain Resort
Located in the colonial hill station of Kalaw in Burma, Amara Mountain Resort is the perfect place for honeymooners who love activities. You can visit a fantastic elephant camp, cycle around the local villages or even take an overnight trek and stay in a monastery!
