Imagine Africa’s top destinations for 2016
As 2015 draws to a close, we’ve put together a list of our top five destinations to visit in Africa in 2016…
Kenya – placing itself back on the tourist map with new and innovative safari ideas
Long a leading player in the safari world, Kenya has recently experienced a bit of tourist ‘downtime’ as a result of FCO advice which was advising against travel to most of the Kenyan coast. But with most of the advice now lifted and the Kenya Tourism Board’s #WhyILoveKenya campaign taking the media by storm, Kenya’s tourism recovery program is well underway. What’s more, Kenya is fighting back with new and innovative safari ideas. As far as we’re concerned, there is no better time to go!

Rwanda – a wildlife rich country which has added lions to its extensive list of inhabitants
For many, Rwanda is all about the highly endangered Mountain Gorillas that reside amongst the bamboo forests in Parc National des Volcans and were made famous by Dian Fossey’s memoir, ‘Gorillas in the Mist’. But it’s not just the resident gorillas that make this one of our top destinations for next year. In 2015, seven lions were translocated from Phinda Private Game Reserve and Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa to Rwanda’s largest national Park, Akagera. This is exciting news for Rwanda, which has had an absence of lions for over 15 years. And with elephant, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, hippo and impala already residents, Rwanda offers the perfect safari and gorilla tracking combination. Word on the grape vine is there are plans to reintroduce rhino too, which would make Akagera a Big Five destination!
Check out our Four Day Gorilla Safari itinerary, which can be teamed with a safari in Akagera National Park.

Ethiopia – an up and coming destination that is often overlooked by modern travellers
Although Ethiopia has been casting a spell on foreign travellers since the days of the Crusaders, it is a country that is often overlooked by modern travellers. But every year it is attracting increasing numbers of tourists who are looking to experience something truly unique. Head to this eye-opening corner of East Africa in 2016 and experience its otherworldly charm before it gets invaded by the masses. With its exotic cultural heritage and enchanting history stretching back to the biblical meeting of Solomon and Sheba, it guarantees a holiday adventure unlike anywhere else. With castles, underground tombs, churches hewn out of solid rock, ancient monasteries, bustling market towns, unique wildlife, and nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites (the most of any African country), Ethiopia has a menu of experiences to tempt even the most jaded globetrotting palette.
