Boasting unblemished beaches, along with romantic hideaway spots, Zanzibar’s picture-perfect east coast is a genuine tropical island paradise. The necklace of powdery white sand that rings the island is sprinkled with a stunning selection of exclusive beach properties, making it an excellent choice for both honeymooners and families alike.
The tides govern the rhythm of the day here. At low tide, the spectacular coral reefs are uncovered, making it easy for you to examine and explore Zanzibar’s kaleidoscopic underwater world. The warm Indian Ocean waters are also a haven for other watersports, with near perfect conditions for surfing, kite-surfing and sailing. In fact, Zanzibar is fast becoming a world-recognised kite-surfing destination, with a number of professional centres offering equipment for hire along the east coast. If this is something that appeals to you, lessons can be arranged for beginners.
If you can pull yourself away from the wonderful beaches, we suggest heading inland to visit the lush greenery and abundant wildlife of Jozani Forest. We can arrange for you to spend half a day exploring this primeval tropical rainforest, with a trip to Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, which is home to the rare red colobus monkey. You can also take an interesting mangrove boardwalk, which walks you through the marine ecosystem.
If sunbathing is more your thing, we think there are few better places in the world to do nothing at all. Lie back in one of the islands many stunning and secluded spots, cocktail in hand, listening to the constant ebb and flow of the tide. As the sun sets, watch fishing dhows skip over the waves as they head out for the night, returning every morning with their fresh catch. With a relaxed atmosphere, coral-fringed lagoons and swaying palms, Zanzibar’s beaches will draw you back time and time again.
