The vibrant bustling city of Arusha is Tanzania’s main safari town. Located in the far north of the country, Arusha lies at the heart of some of Tanzania’s most spectacular national parks and safari destinations. With fantastic views of Mount Kilimanjaro and plenty to offer, Arusha deserves more than its reputation as a stopover destination.
Conveniently located between Tanzania’s northern safari parks, Arusha draws visitors from all over the world and is the perfect place to stay before heading off on safari. With good hotels, restaurants, a pleasant climate and those spectacular views of Kilimanjaro, we think it’s a great place to relax and explore before, or indeed after, a safari.
Owing to the popularity of safari holidays, Arusha has grown rapidly over the last couple of decades and we can arrange a tour of its highlights, which are many and varied. The bustling market is a great place to start, giving you an insight into daily life in Arusha. What’s more, the city is home to the largest gallery for contemporary African art on the continent and the Sable Square Shopping Village, designed in Cape Dutch architecture, with a good selection of restaurants and shops, makes a lovely spot for lunch.
The city is surrounded by a small national park, dominated by the perfect cone and crater of Mount Meru. Another feature of note is Ngurdoto Crater, often known as Little Ngorongoro, with its swamp-filled floor. The park is a wonderful place to relax, enjoy the scenery, trek, mountain bike or canoe. With a warm and welcoming vibe and lots of great scenery and activities on offer, we think Arusha is a great place to stay either side of a safari.
