This in-depth itinerary is the perfect introduction to Mexico for those with plenty of time – a destination which will have you wanting to return again and again. Discover Mexico’s bustling capital city, colourful colonial towns, the famous Mayan sites of Chichen Itza and Uxmal, and the stunning beaches of the Caribbean and the Baja California peninsula which are rich in marine life. Days 1 - 3 : Cancun, Riviera Maya
Fly into Cancun which is an easy flight from the UK and the perfect place to begin your grand tour of Mexico. Stay for two nights to unwind after your flight, discovering the incredible underwater world of the Caribbean and Cancun's unique underwater museum, filled with sculptures.
Days 3 - 6 : Merida, Yucatan Peninsula
Stay at Hotel Hacienda Merida for 3 nights
Your next stop is Merida, a lively colonial city and capital of the Yucatan. Stop at the iconic Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza along the way and learn about the cleverly designed architecture of this impressive site. Continue to Merida, staying for three nights in the centre of this colourful city, which comes to life as the sun begins to set. Day 6 - 7 : Palenque, Chiapas

From Merida, fly to Villahermosa and drive to Palenque to discover this vast Mayan site buried within the jungle. Days 7 - 9 : San Cristobal, Chiapas

Days 9 - 12 : Mexico City and Around, Mexico

On route to the airport, explore the impressive Sumidero Canyon by boat and marvel at this natural wonder, before hopping on a flight to Mexico City. Mexico City is a vibrant metropolis and seamlessly blends the old with the new. Days 17 - 20 : La Paz, Baja California, Mexico
Stay at Posada de las Flores La Paz for 3 nights
Drive to Guadalajara passing fields of agave and take a flight over to Baja California, a desert peninsula which sits in between the rugged Pacific coast and the wildlife rich Sea of Cortez. Begin in La Paz and enjoy excursions out on the water to swim with sea lions or even whale sharks (depending on the season). Go hiking on deserted beaches with a private naturalist guide and soak in cacti strewn landscapes and red rock mountains.
Days 20 - 23 : San Jose del Cabo, Baja California
