This extensive itinerary gives those with the luxury of time to really get under the skin of the ancient civilisations of Mexico and Central America. Begin in Guatemala, a country bursting with culture and tradition. Spend your days wandering the colonial cities, exploring the local markets and if you’re feeling adventurous, hiking some of the scenic volcanoes for unforgettable views. Crossing the border into jungle territory in Belize where you’ll find birds, jungle ruins and adventure. Fly over the border to Mexico and dine in some of Latin America's best restaurants, delving into the Aztec past in Mexico City before heading to the Yucatan for your introduction to the Mayans. Continue your trip south and end on the stunning Caribbean beaches of Tulum, the perfect place to finish your trip.
Days 1 - 4 : Antigua, Guatemala
Stay at Meson de Maria for 3 nights
Your first stop is Antigua, the colonial gem in the heart of the Guatemalan Highlands and the best preserved of all of the colonial cities in Latin America. On arrival, check into Meson de Maria in the heart of the old town. The rooftop affords 360 degree views of the city. The next day your guide will show you the city where you’ll learn about the history and culture.
The rest of your time here is at leisure to relax or if you fancy it, hike Pacaya volcano, before your transfer to Lake Atitlan.
Days 4 - 6 : Hotel Atitlan, Guatemala
Stay at Hotel Atitlan for 2 nights
In the morning your private guide will collect you and transfer you to the spectacular Lake Atitlan, one of the most significant cultural centres of Guatemala.
Check into Hotel Atitlan on the shores of the lake and enjoy and glass of wine watching the sunset. The next day a full day boat tour will take you around the lake where you’ll meet traditional textile weavers, chocolate makers and shamans still practicing Mayan ritual. You will have another day at leisure to relax in the stunning surroundings or you can take a trip the Botanical Gardens or kayak on the lake.
Days 6 - 8 : Tikal National Park, Guatemala
Stay at Jungle Lodge for 2 nights
Fly to Flores from Guatemala City to reach the impressive ruins of Tikal which are buried within dense jungle. On arrival you will be taken directly to your hotel, Jungle Lodge, just one kilometre from the gates of Tikal, one of the most spectacular Mayan sites.
Check in and enjoy an evening at leisure. In the morning, be the first the enter the site at sunrise. Tikal was one of most significant sites and you’ll not only learn about this ancient city, but about its relationship with Lamanai and other sites closeby.
Days 8 - 11 : Cayo District and Caracol, Belize
Stay at Black Rock Lodge for 3 nights
Cross the border into Belize and head straight for the country's adventure capital, the Cayo District. You’ll be taken to Black Rock Lodge in the heart of the jungle. Spend the next three days at your lodge where you can enjoy various activities such as river tubing, hiking and horseback riding. For those with an adventure streak, you can arrange ziplining and cave tubing locally.
Days 11 - 14 : Orange Walk District, Belize
Stay at Lamanai Outpost Lodge for 3 nights
Transfer by land and boat to Lamanai Outpost Lodge located on the New River in Orange Walk District.
This area is teeming with wildlife and you will spend the next few days at the lodge exploring the surrounding area. Expect to see plenty of birds, caiman, and your first taste of jungle ruins with a visit the Mayan site of Lamanai.
Days 14 - 16 : Mexico City, Mexico City and Puebla
Stay at Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico for 2 nights
Transfer to Belize City Airport and fly to Mexico City, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the centre.
The following day, take your trip back in time with a visit to Teotihuacan, also know as the temple of the sun and the moon, where you’ll learn about ancient Aztec traditions. Continue with a tour of Mexico City visiting some of it’s famous sites such as the Zocalo and Anthropological museums and if you dare try Mexico’s strongest drink “Mezcal”. Spend another day in the city to visit some of the museums or the house of Diego and Freida.
Days 16 - 18 : Merida, Yucatan Peninsula
Stay at Casa del Balam for 2 nights
Depart from Mexico City and fly to the Colonial capital of the Yucatan State, which makes up most of the famous Yucatan Peninsula.
On arrival, transfer to Casa de Balam in the heart of the city, close to the Plaza de la Independencia.
Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing or exploring independently. At weekends, Merida comes to life with music on the streets, street food, and performances, so be sure to head to the main plaza to enjoy the entertainment. The following day a guided tour will give you an insight into the history and culture of this Spanish influenced city.
Days 18 - 21 : Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula
Stay at Be Tulum for 3 nights
This morning you will depart from Merida and head towards the coast, stopping off at one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, Chichen Itza. This will be your first introduction to the Mayans, who despite having very similar architecture to the Aztecs, share no connections. Your guide will give you a tour of the site with lunch before continuing onto your hotel, Be Tulum, perfectly located on a beautiful stretch of white sandy beach. Check in and spend the last couple of days relaxing in paradise, before being transferred back to the airport to connect with your flight home.

When to go
For Belize’s best weather, visit between the months of December to April. Expect warm weather and a great deal of sunshine as well as excellent snorkelling opportunities. Avoiding travel between June to October is recommended as daily heavy rainfall is common. Hurricanes are possible between August and October.
