This private journey through the Kingdom of Cambodia offers you an insight into the best this fascinating country has to offer. You will begin your trip by visiting the truly remarkable Angkor complex of temples in Siem Reap, before heading south to the capital Phnom Penh where you will learn of its ancient and more recent history. A unique twist on your trip is your visit to the lively riverside town Kratie, in the hope of spotting the incredibly rare Irrawaddy dolphins. Your trip will conclude in Cambodia’s original colonial beach resort, Kep, for some true natural beauty and ultimate relaxation.
Days 1 - 4 : Siem Reap, Cambodia
Stay at Victoria Angkor for 3 nights
On arrival into Siem Reap, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for a 3 night stay at the Victoria Angkor Hotel. Your time in Siem Reap will take you to visit the ancient city of Angkor, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire.
You will visit the most famous temple of all - Angkor Wat - at dawn when the light is at its best, Angkor Thom and its many faces of King Jayavarman, and experience the wilderness temple of Ta Prohm with its tangle of tree roots over taking the temples. Your tour will take you to Bayon Temple in the exact center of the city, famed for its faces carved into the stone.
Take a ride on the Angkor Gondola paddle boat at the moat of the Angkor Thom compound while watching a spectacular sunset.
Days 4 - 6 : Kratie, Cambodia
Travel out to one of the best spots in Cambodia for trying to view the endangered Irrawaddy Dolphins in this lively and friendly riverside town, set in the Cambodia countryside. The town has an expansive riverfront area and offers people visiting the chance to see some of the best Mekong sunsets in Cambodia. The town itself has managed to retain its rich legacy of French-era architecture.
You will spend your 2 nights staying at the traditional Rajabori Villas resort, set in the heart of the countryside just a 10 minute boat ride from Koh Trong Island, and 20 minutes from Kratie city.
Days 6 - 8 : Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Spend a couple of days visiting one of the most laid back cities in Asia. The city has managed to retain its colonial charm despite its recent turbulent history, and although it is a bustling city, Phnom Penh benefits from a majestic location at the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers.
You will begin with a visit to Wat Phnom temple, the founding place of the city on a small hilltop, before continuing along the riverfront to the Royal Palace- home to the Silver Pagoda, where you will see Buddhas in gold, silver, crystal, and bronze. You will visit the National Museum, built in traditional Khmer style and home to the world’s foremost collection of ancient Khmer artistic, archaeological, and religious artifacts.
While in Phnom Penh it is difficult to escape the country’s recent dark history and visits to the remarkable Tuol Sleng Genocide museum and the Killing fields of Choeung offer the most vivid reminder of the Khmer Rouge reign. Your stay will be in the boutique White Mansion hotel, offering a perfect central location within easy reach of all the major highlights.
Days 8 - 12 : Kep, Cambodia
Stay at Knai Bang Chatt for 4 nights
Enjoy the conclusion of your adventure by relaxing at Kep - Cambodia’s original beach resort. A prestigious beach resort in the 1960s, Kep is now awakening itself to its former glory.
Whilst the aim here is to enjoy total relaxation, there is a small town nearby offering reminders of the past and a growing choice of activities are available including island trips and a national park to explore. Despite only being a small village, Kep is one of the top areas in Cambodia for food, particularly its fresh seafood and its famed crab market.
