You will be provided with a duffle bag which will be taken by our porters to the tents every night – you should fill it with clean clothes and all toiletries you’ll need for the night time. The Lares Adventure to Machu Picchu, will take you on a journey through the ancient history, living culture and the magnificent landscapes of Cusco and the Sacred Valley, all whilst staying in deluxe mountain lodges along the way. Hidden within the magnificent snow-capped Andes, the Lares Valley offers a much less crowded, yet no less beautiful route to the ancient city of Machu Picchu. After relishing the beauty of Machu Picchu, embark on the train to Lake Titicaca and explore the largest lake in Latin America and the world’s highest navigable lake at 3,830m.
Days 1 - 3 : Lima, Peru
Stay at Atemporal for 2 nights
Arrive into Lima and begin your adventure in Peru's lively capital city, boasting renowned museums, cool galleries and world-class restaurants. Explore the city highlights at leisure and enjoy a guided excursion at the Larco Museum, Lima's most prestigious museum which is filled with pre-Columbian artefacts.
Days 3 - 5 : Cusco, Peru
Stay at El Mercado for 2 nights
Fly to Cusco and spend the afternoon acclimatising to the dizzying heights of the city. During your time in Cusco, enjoy a half day tour exploring the best of the city, visiting the ruins of Sacsayhuaman. You may also wish to spend time exploring at leisure, marvelling at the legendary firestone walls of the Koricancha temple, witness the fascinating geometry of the Stone of the Twelve Angles and visiting the magnificent Cathedral housing invaluable colonial works of art.
On your second evening here you will be greeted by your guide who will brief you for the upcoming Lares trek to Machu Picchu.
Day 5 - 6 : Lares Lodge to Lodge Adventure, Peru
Today begin a five day journey to Machu Picchu on the Lares Lodge to Lodge adventure. Stay in deluxe mountain lodges along the way, where meals and activities are included. Begin your journey into the Sacred Valley, choosing a cultural excursion or a more active hike to get the adventure going.
At lunch time everyone will be reunited for lunch and an afternoon guided tour of the Pisaq archaeological site.
Day 6 - 7 : Lares Lodge to Lodge Adventure, Peru
Today delve deep into the heart of the Lares Valley. Visit the unique and quieter archaeological site of Ancasmarca and also the traditional and ancient weavers’ village of Choquecancha. Alternatively if you prefer something more active, you can hike along the turquoise blue lakes and towering peaks to the remote village of Huacahuasi. Overnight at Huacahuasi Lodge.
Day 7 - 8 : The Sacred Valley, Peru
In the morning, explore the Huacahuasi community and learn about their local heritage. Afterwards embark on a spectacular hike from Pumamarka to the ancient town of Ollantaytambo, the oldest living city in Latin America, spend time meandering through its charming maze-like streets. If yo wish, you may also visit a local craft brewery for an additional charge.
Day 8 - 9 : Lares Lodge to Lodge Adventure, Peru
Stay at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel for 1 night
The temple at Ollantaytambo was regarded by the Incas as one of their most important ceremonial centers. On this day, an optional and short early morning hike to Inca storage structures high above Ollantaytambo will give you a magnicent view of the town as well as of the main archeological site across the valley. Afterwards, enjoy a morning tour of the temple and glimpse into its majestic past.
In the afternoon, embark on a train journey to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu and overnight in your hotel.

Day 9 - 10 : Cusco, Peru
Stay at El Mercado for 1 night
At dawn, begin your journey to Machu Picchu with a short and rollicking uphill bus ride. Explore the ruins with a guide and explore its temples, palaces and structures . Your imagination will soar as you contemplate the history of Machu Picchu and its mysterious origins. For the more adventurous, it is possible to hike to Huayna Picchu, for dramatic views that stretch from the Urubamba River valley to the edge of the Amazon Jungle.
In the afternoon, take the train back to Cusco and transfer to your hotel.
Days 10 - 12 : Lake Titicaca, Peru
Stay at Amantica Lodge for 2 nights
In the morning you will embark on the train to Puno, and experience one of the most breath-taking train rides in Latin America. On arrival in Puno transfer to your luxury lodge, where all meals and activities are included. During your time here, explore the highlights of the majestic Lake Titicaca and soak up its stunning scenery and ancient charm.
Day 12 - 13 : Flight Home
Morning private transfer to the airport for your flight home via Lima.
