This itinerary is perfect for intrepid families with a sense of adventure, looking to explore the tropical scenery and wildlife of Costa Rica. Everyone will be kept entertained during this 12 day itinerary which takes you on an extraordinary journey exploring the riverbanks, the rainforest, waterfalls, volcanoes, hot springs and the unspoilt sandy coastline. Day 1 - 2 : San Jose
Stay at Park Inn for 1 night
On arrival in San Jose, you will be transferred to your hotel where you can either relax after your long flight or head out to explore the city.
Days 2 - 4 : Tortuguero, Costa Rica
Stay at Mawamba Lodge for 2 nights
This morning save time by taking a short flight to Tortuguero National Park, giving you the luxury of seeing it from a bird's eye view.
There are no roads to Tortuguero, so from the airport you must take a boat trip to your lodge. During your stay here, you will explore the canals for howler monkeys, colourful poison-arrow frogs, go fishing and hike in the Tortuguero National Park. The area is also considered one of the world's major nesting sites for the Atlantic green turtle; you can see these amazing creatures between July and October. All your meals and selected excursions are included during your stay.
Days 4 - 7 : Arenal, Costa Rica
Stay at Nayara Gardens for 3 nights
Enjoy a scenic boat ride back to the port in time for lunch before transferring overland to Arenal. Once here, enjoy a number of activities to explore the area such as visiting the Ecotermales Hot springs, rappelling tours, hiking to hidden waterfalls and zip lining above the treetops of the Arenal reserve. Your stay here includes a volcano hike and a visit to the hot springs.
Days 7 - 9 : Monteverde, Costa Rica
Stay at Trapp Family Lodge for 2 nights
Depart Arenal and transfer across the lake to reach your hotel in Monteverde. Visit the biodiverse Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve which is dense with a multitude of trees, plants and flowers as well as a huge array of bird species and wildlife. During your stay here you have included a day on the Sky tram, zip lining through the canopy and a walk along the hanging bridges.
Days 9 - 13 : Manuel Antonio
Stay at Parador Hotel for 4 nights
Today you will be transferred to your hotel in Manuel Antonio. With four nights in the national park, you can explore the lush tropical rainforest at your own pace. Considered one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, it is home to many varieties of wildlife including monkeys, sloths, iguanas and exotic birds. There are many well-marked trails for relaxing strolls or more strenuous hikes depending on your own preference. There are three beaches in the park, with Playa Manuel Antonio being the most popular, but if you are after a quiet afternoon sun-soaking, head to Playa Espadilla.
Day 13 - 14 : Overnight Flight Home
Transfer back to San Jose airport for your overnight flight back home.
