This classic itinerary is one of our favourites, offering a real flavour of Costa Rica and allowing you to discover the absolute must-see areas of the country. Start in the sleepy Central valley with its coffee plantations, zipline through the sleepy rainforest, trek up vast volcanoes and finish the trip by surfing the crystal blue waves at hippy-chic Santa Teresa.
Days 1 - 3 : Alajuela, Costa Rica
Stay at Xandari Resort & Spa for 2 nights
On arrival in San Jose, you will be met at the airport and driven to your hotel in the Central Valley to relax after your long flight. Included on your second day is a tour visiting Poas Volcano, Doka Coffee Estate and La Paz Waterfall.
Days 3 - 5 : Turrialba, Sarapiqui and Pacuare, Costa Rica
Stay at Rios Tropicales Lodge for 2 nights
This morning you will be driven to Siquirres, where you will start your rafting experience on the Pacuare river to Rios Tropicales in the heart of the rainforest.
Once here, you have the chance to hike endless trails and swim in beautiful waterfalls and pools. All your meals are included during your stay, as well as a shared Canyoning and Canopy excursion.
Days 5 - 8 : Arenal, Costa Rica
Stay at Nayara Gardens for 3 nights
This morning you will start your rafting back to Siquirres and continue your journey to Arenal.
Included in your stay is a shared Caño Negro Wildlife refuge tour by boat including lunch. Other excursions to consider are volcano hiking, hot springs, lake kayaking, zip-lining and walking the hanging bridges.
Days 8 - 11 : Nicoya Peninsula, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Stay at Nantipa for 3 nights
This morning you will be transferred by car and boat to your hotel in Santa Teresa.
With three nights here, you have plenty of time to enjoy the beach and try your hand at some surfing. Alternatively, there is horseriding, hiking, canopy tours, fishing, or you can just lie back and relax on a sun lounger.
Day 11 - 12 : Flight Home
Today you will be transferred to Liberia airport for your onward journey home.
