Walks on Nyika Plateau
The Nyika Plateau, in northern Malawi, is a real gem of a place - at an altitude of around 2,400 metres, the plateau has rolling hills stretching in all directions, covering nearly 3000 square kilometres.
Here one of the most popular activities is walking across the plateau, accompanied by your experienced and knowledgeable guide. Set off early in the morning, when the mist is still rising, and walk to the top of one of Nyika's hills. The views are unparalleled and you will have the opportunity to see large numbers of game if you approach quietly. Nyika has large herds of eland and these can be approached closely for some amazing photographic opportunities.
Another feature of Nyika is the wild flowers which grow here, including many species of orchid, which bloom in the late summer. You'll also see gladioli, lobelias, delphiniums and red hot pokers. The walking is superb and due to Nyika's elevation, the days are not too hot. At the end of your walk, take the opportunity to have a dip in one of Nyika's many streams and waterfalls - a wonderfully refreshing end to a lovely morning.
