Unseen Klong Thonburi
This half day experience will find you cruising along Bangkok’s canals on a brightly painted longtail boat. Experience a more quaint and peaceful side of the bustling city and understand why Bangkok is called the ‘Venice of the East’.
Board a longtail boat in the morning or afternoon and sail past communities living on the edge of the canals, witnessing local life, stopping and getting off the boat occasionally to explore temples and orchards. As you cruise along the water, you will see the glinting skyline in front of you, surrounding by traditional wooden and colonial buildings, an intoxicating blend between old and new. As you pass Wat Arum, your boat will leave the main canals and enter the khlongs, a labyrinth of charming waterways. Along the Thonburi khlong you will see both teak houses and enormous contemporary mansions, displaying how these canal communities have developed. After exploring the rarely visited Wat Khun Chan temple complex, cross over a bridge and explore the ancient lanes, reaching Wat Paknam. After another short boat ride, you will reach a farm where you can walk through orchids and fruit plantations. On your way back down the Chao Phraya River you can stop to feed the holy catfish in the water.
