After driving to the town of Dhulikhel with your guide (around an hour from Kathmandu) you can take in the fine views before beginning the trail to to the small temple of Devistan which is renowned for its excellent vantage point for views of the Himalayan range.
The trail now rises with a smooth 90 minute trail up to the village of Phulbari which brings more excellent scenery but is also the entry point to Namo Buddha Stupa, one of Buddhism’s sacred sights and home to the Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery. Legend states that in a previous incarnation, Lord Buddha offered his body to feed a starving Tigress at the site, and his bones were kept in a casket which would become the Namo Buddha Stupa which is now so praised.
The area around the stupa has become quite touristy and makes for an interesting place to explore and recharge your batteries before a 3 hour trail takes you down to the charming medieval village of Panuti, often cited as a ‘mini Kathmandu’ this pretty village contains some relics of Newari architecture and is well worth taking some time to see. At the end of your visit, your guide will walk you back to your vehicle where you can return to your hotel.
