Tour of Patan Durbar Square
A separate ancient city, Patan now forms part of the fabric of Kathmandu but retains the charm of an older town and simpler times. Your guide will help you step into the past and discover some of the secrets of this charismatic place on a half day tour.
Nicknamed the City of Fine Arts, Patan is actually Nepal’s third largest city, though has long been absorbed by greater Kathmandu. Because of this, it retains a unique sheltered charm and is home to some of Nepal’s finest cultural heritage.
Sadly damaged by the earthquake of 2015, Patan is still a wonderful place to explore. Less busy and with far less traffic than Kathmandu, exploring the maze of side streets, bazaars and temples is a thrill in itself, especially as the views of the lower Himalayas can be seen surrounding the temples and rooftops on clear days.
Your main focus will be the iconic Durbar Square, one of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, where your guide will help you explore the Krishna Temple, Nepal’s only temple made entirely of stone and also Hiranya Varna Mahavihar, the sparkling golden temple of Lord Buddha which sits beside many stone carvings of lions and elephants.
