Tour of Bungamati and Khokana Villages
On this half day tour, your guide will take you out of the city and see some slices of traditional Nepalese life. Bungamati is famed in Nepal for being the winter home and birthplace of the God of rain.
An hours’ drive from Kathmandu you will find yourself in the outskirts of the city where you will see a different side to Nepalese life.
The village of Bungamati itself is most well-known for its Machhindranath Temple, birthplace of the Red Machendranath, an important deity in both Hindu and Buddhist mythology. Today, the temple is mainly used by farmers utilising its large courtyards for drying grain and other grain, making use of its flat surface to catch the sun.
After exploring Bungamati, you will visit the traditional Newari village of Khokana. The Newari people are the original inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley, and here you will still see their age-old methods of harvesting mustard oil before heading back to your hotel.
