Tour of Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Kathmandu is famous for its Durbar Squares and Bhaktapur is one of the most celebrated. Your guided tour will help you explore the palaces and temples that make this ancient city one of the highlights if Nepal.
Known as the City of Devotees, Bhaktapur is an ancient city famed for the architecture of the Newar people, the original inhabitants of the Kathmandu valley.
At its heart is its Durbar Square, one of three such squares in Kathmandu to be given UNESCO World Heritage status and a centre of culture and religious enlightenment for centuries.
Like much of Kathmandu, the square suffered during the 2015 earthquake, but due to the efforts of the Bhaktapur Development Project (BDP), the site remains one of the more striking examples of Nepalese cultural heritage and, like its sister square in Patan, makes for a wonderful exploration to understand both current and historical examples of Nepalese life.
Your guide will navigate you through the narrow lanes and markets, pottery artists and period housing, making sure you take in some of the more iconic sights, including the Golden Gate, said the be the most beautiful artefact in the Kingdom and Nyatpola Temple, the tallest and one of the most impressive in Kathmandu.
