The Ranakpur Temple
Explore the exquisite marble Jain temple at Ranakpur.
The Ranakpur Temple is one of the biggest and most important Jain temples in India. The complex is well worth a visit if you are anywhere near Jodhpur of Udaipur and can make a wonderful stop over if you are travelling through southern Rajasthan. The Jain temple, dedicated to Tirthankara Adinatha, is fascinating to look at and walk around as it has a great number of beautifully carved sculptures. The temple, which was begun in the 15th century, is an eloquent testimony to India’s cultural heritage. The grand temple is made of a light coloured marble and has distinctive domes, shikhara, turrets and cupolas. The Ranakpur temple is supported by over 1444 marble pillars which are exquisitely carved and no two of the pillars are the same.
