Streetfood of Phnom Penh
Travelling by cyclo and on foot, spend the morning venturing through the colourful food markets in Phnom Penh, sampling exotic fruit and local specialities along the way, before enjoying a delicious Khmer lunch at a local restaurant.
Accompanied by your guide, wander through the morning market, admiring the vast array of herbs, spices, fruit and vegetables on display. Learn about the different ingredients, and watch locals bartering over the produce to secure the best price. Visit the streetfood stalls to try local dishes, including a variety of fruit, barbequed meat, and for the adventurous, even fried insects! This market is very much geared towards locals rather than tourists, and so this is a great opportunity to gain an insight into day to day life in Phnom Penh.
You will then stop at a popular local restaurant for a delicious lunch. Khmer dishes will be served family-style, where you can help yourself from large bowls in the middle of the table.
Please note that the market can get a little muddy, particularly during the rainy season, therefore we suggest wearing sturdy footwear which you do not mind getting wet.
