Sepilok Nursery & Sun Bear Discovery
Enjoy a morning excursion to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn all about these wonderful animals.
This morning, you will be taken to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in time for the orangutan's morning feed, usually around 10am. Spend the morning observing man’s closest relative, the orangutan, and enjoy a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest. There are around 25 young orphaned orangutans at the centre, and you can visit the outdoor nursery to learn all about the process of rehabilitating them back into the wild.
Next, you will walk to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. The little-known sun bear is the smallest of the bear species and the best tree climber. Once found throughout Asia, from India to Vietnam and China to Borneo, their numbers have decreased dramatically due to deforestation, commercial hunting and the pet trade. The mission of the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is to rescue these sun bears and promote their conservation to return sun bears to the forest.
