Seal Island is a small island a short boat ride from Hout Bay that is completely inhabited by seals. The island has become a breeding colony for around 60,000 blubbering Cape Fur Seals clumsily bounding around on a rock around 6km out to sea.
Seal Island is a popular destination for tourists firstly for the seals but also due to the large amounts of Great White Sharks that surround the area. Being the Cape Fur seals biggest predator, Great White sharks are frequently spotted around the island and few have been lucky enough to see these predators in full action as they leap out of the sea towards their prey. This trip is an assault on the senses with seals in every direction you look and the noise of bellowing and squabbling heard clearly from the boat.
