Santiago & San Juan Lake Tour
Take a boat across the calm waters of Lake Atitlan to the lively village of Santiago de Atitlan. Explore the fascinating Catholic church and haggle for a bargain at the bustling market after visiting the women's textile cooperative in nearby San Juan.
You will be picked up from your hotel & transfer to San Juan La Laguna Village where you will visit a local textile cooperative to see the back strap loom in use and to see how they still dye with natural dyes. You will also visit the home and workshop of local naïf painters before boarding the boat onto Santiago Village for lunch.
After lunch you will walk with your guide to find the house where the Maya God Maximon is living. Each year a different "brotherhood" has the privilege of taking care of their God so his location changes. Once with Maximon you may see local shaman performing rituals for the community.
Afterwards, you'll have the chance to visit the church and learn about the town's history as well as peruse the local market. The textiles and art sold here are native to this particular area of the Lake. You will then return to your hotel for a relaxing evening.
