Salta, Purmamarca, San Antonio, Cachi & Cafayate
The journey from Salta down to Cafayate takes you through quaint towns and some of the most glorious scenery that Argentina has to offer.
Start your route to Cachi heading south from Salta city. You will pass through the different towns of the Lerma Valley and the National Park Los Cardones, famed for its incredible high-altitude cactus plants that span for miles. You will arrive at the quaint white-washed town of Cachi in time for lunch (payable locally). After visiting the archaeological museum, continue down Route 40 to admire mountainous landscapes and pass by more enchanting local towns bordering the Calchaquí River, such as Seclantas, Molinos, Angastaco, San Carlos and Animana. Continue through the magnificent Quebrada de Las Flechas where you will pass through truly magnificent rock formations, offering plenty of opportunities to enjoy taking some fantastic photos. This part of the trip is especially spectacular if you can time it right and drive through as the sun goes down. By the end of the afternoon you will arrive to Cafayate, where you will spend the night.
