Rewilding Project at Rincon del Socorro
Learn about the Rewilding Project through videos and talks with biologists and technicians and if you’re lucky you may spot some of the recently re-introduced species as you tour around the lodge and its surroundings.
In 2001, The Conservation Land Trust, created by philanthropist Douglas Tompkins acquired the property of Rincon del Socorro to create a 74,130-acre nature reserve. Their objectives were to create Argentina’s largest nature park, re-introduce certain extirpated wildlife species and promote ecotourism. In fact, all income generated through the lodge goes directly into the conservation of the Iberá wetlands and the restoration efforts. Rincon del Socorro is masterminding a fantastic and vast rewilding project that we are really excited about; they have already released giant anteaters, pampas deer, tapirs and collared peccaries back into the wild.
