Quad biking on Likoma Island
Likoma Island, in the centre of Lake Malawi is home to Kaya Mawa, a luxurious and relaxed beach lodge offering some wonderful water activities, and also the opportunity to explore the island on quad bike.
Likoma Island is only 18km2 but is a wonderful place to explore, particularly on quad bikes. Take a ride up the main road to the town, and wander around St Peter's Cathedral, visit The Magic Tree and enjoy a cool drink at one of the many stalls. Or use the bikes to explore the further reaches of the island, perhaps discovering your very own sandy beach, or visiting a local village.
The Islanders are extremely friendly, and more than used to tourists suddenly appearing in the middle of their village. They are happy to answer questions, and give directions if needed. It's a particular treat to set off in the early morning, just after dawn, and head to one of the beaches. There you can watch the fishermen coming in after fishing all night, and see them offload their catch onto the enormous drying racks. It's a fascinating sight!
